Perspectives for Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialisation (RIS3) in the wider context of the Europe 2020 Growth Strategy

A report called “Perspectives for Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialisation (RIS3) in the wider context of the Europe 2020 Growth Strategy” was published by a group of independent experts in 2015. Additionally, smart specialisation is emphasized by the Innovation Union Flagship and the “Regional Policy Contributing to Smart Growth in Europe 2020”, which constitutes a vital part of the European Commission’s present Cohesion Policy.

Lessons learned

The report’s purpose was to support the implementation process of RIS3 and help the countries that have not adopted it yet. The goal is to optimise the effect of public and private investments on Research and Innovation (R&I) using smart specialisation. The group discussed lessons learned from the many existing documents concerning smart specialisation strategies. The objective was to improve development and implementation of future innovation, research and related strategies as well as the development of the smart policy mix.
