TR3S – Another valuable initiative!

Europe is facing global transformation and consequently, must act as a unified group. Some European regions have to get out of the economic crisis and get over weaknesses. To overcome this situation, the European Union aims at supporting for (re)designing strategies toward smart, sustainable and inclusive economies. Therefore, the initiative “Towards Regional Specialisation for Smart growth spirit” (TR3S) helps these regions of Europe to work together and to share experiences in the areas of innovation, the knowledge economy, the environment and risk prevention. In general, TR3S is a project for regional and local authorities and actors that is co-funded by the Interregional Cooperation Programme INTERREG IVC. In total, this project has a fund of € 302 million.

The project’s topic focuses on smart specialisation, which refers to finding one-of-a-kind characteristics and assets, advantages, and identifying stakeholders and resources. In addition, reinforcing innovation, maximizing data flow and distributing the advantages of innovation represent essential parts of the project. To conclude, the project involves finding out what the region does best in terms of their resources, which is a vital notion for regional innovation policy.

Started in March 2012, TR3S has ten partner regions, nine of which are from Europe. The project provides suggestions for action and smart policy procedures and structures to advance the effectiveness of regional policies and help modernization and competitiveness in Europe. Additionally, meetings are planned to discuss experiences and to observe the regional thinking process.
